This activity will blow the minds of the students. I will hand out six notecards to each student, only six. With six notecards, students will have to build a contraption that they think will support the most weight. There will be restrictions on the contraption, such as; you will not be given more or less then six notecards, it can be no taller than three inches, and has to be more than one inch. Students will work together, or alone to make their contraption, but each individual will have to test their own product. They can work together to talk about ways they think it should be made to hold the most weigh, but ultimately each person must have their own.

This activity can be done more than once by each student, but the rules imply for every attempt that is taken. We will have a competition to see whose can hold the most weight. This will cause the students to get more into it and start a little competition. They will have to realize that it is not all about the spacial part of the object, but rather how tightly compact it is.
